Tachelle Herron

Dr. Tachelle Herron is an educator, scholar, author, and educational leader whose work centers Urban Black Scholars, educational resilience, culturally affirming education, college access, and educational equity. She earned her Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Educational Leadership from San Francisco State University, where her dissertation, A Narrative Study of Educational Resilience Among Urban Black Scholars, examined how culturally affirming educators, community-based organizations, mentorship, and pathways to higher education contribute to Black student achievement, belonging, identity development, and liberation. Grounded in narrative inquiry, auto-afronography, Critical Black Pedagogy, and Afrocentric thought, her scholarship centers the lived experiences and educational journeys of Urban Black Scholars. She holds associate degrees in Liberal Arts, Social Science, and African American Studies, a B.A. in Liberal Studies with a minor in Africana Studies, and an M.A. in Equity and Social Justice in Education. Dr. Herron has worked across PreK–12 education, higher education, and community-based organizations, including the San Francisco Unified School District, San Francisco State University’s Step to College Program, 100% College Prep, Bayview Association for Youth, and the Giants Community Fund Willie Mays Scholars Program. 

She serves as an academic generalist and coordinator of the Get Through College Program with 100% College Prep. She is also the founder of Ain’t I A Scholar Education Consulting and author of Ain’t I A Scholar: Stamped at Risk from Birth: An Urban Black Scholar’s Story, All the Beautiful Colors, Capital B: When You Write About Me, and Mama’s Teachers. Dr. Herron Lane remains committed to advancing Critical Black Pedagogy, educational justice, culturally affirming learning environments, and pathways that empower Urban Scholars to achieve academically, lead with purpose, and thrive.
