In this lecture discussion Dr. Flannery, Assistant Professor int eh Department of Africana Studies, offers an analysis of a commonly used term, "woke", to discuss the significance of deep consciousness, collective memory, and political agency in the African American community.  As a result of this discussion we hope to add value and context to the language production of African Americans and their power to define transformative consciousness.
